Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill

nuala-niNuala Ní Dhomhnaill was born in Lancashire and is one of the most prominent poets writing in Irish today. She is also an anthologist and the author of numerous articles, reviews and essays. She studied English and Irish at UCC and currently lives in Co. Dublin. Her work has won several awards, including the Duais Sheáin Uí Ríordáin (1982, 1984, 1990), the Gradam an Oireachtas (1984), the Duais Na Chomhairle Ealaíne um Filíochta (1985, 1988) and the Ireland Fund Literature Prize (1991). Her most recent collection of poetry is The Fifty Minute Mermaid (translations by Paul Muldoon, 2007). She was the second Ireland Professor of Poetry (2001- 2004).
